About This Project

This single-storey detached home was commissioned by a couple that intended to downsize. The plot was in the garden of their existing home and the specific location chosen for its privacy and established landscaped gardens.

The brief was simply to create a home that would blend into its surroundings whilst allowing plenty of natural light and open-plan living space.

Timber cladding was chosen rather than a masonry skin as it was felt this would blend in far more appropriately with the surrounding trees and garden.

Inside, rather than use structural steel, we engineered glulam beams to be exposed internally. This demonstrates that the fabric of the home is as carbon neutral as possible and adds some architectural features to the vaulted roofs within.
